Competencies for the Hospice and Palliative LPN/LVN (eBook)
This eBook lays out the roles and responsibilities for high-quality practice, with an emphasis on partnership and collaboration. The competencies represent and describe the knowledge, attitudes, and skills that hospice and palliative licensed practical/vocational nurses demonstrate when providing evidence-based care, under the direction of a supervising licensed nurse, to individuals experiencing serious illnesses and their families across the life span and in diverse settings.
The competencies are outcome-specific and measurable. They reflect and provide synergy of several guiding tenets for licensed practical vocational professional nurses in hospice and palliative care. The competencies cover major topics, outlined by the Hospice and Palliative Credentialing Center (HPCC), that are pertinent to licensed practical/vocational nurses, including knowledge expectations emerging from the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association’s Statement on the Scope and Standards of Hospice and Palliative Licensed Practical/Vocational Nursing Practice as well as the Core Curriculum for the Licensed Practical/Vocational Hospice and Palliative Nurse.
