Dr. Katherine (Kate) Stackhouse is board certified as a family nurse practitioner combined with further post graduate studies and board certification in hospice and palliative medicine. For more than 18 years she has served in a wide variety of clinical and educational roles including family practice, urgent care, hospice and palliative medicine, geriatrics, and occupational medicine. She most recently spearheaded a national palliative care telehealth program and currently provides advanced practice palliative care to patients and families who are dealing with serious illness. She is also currently working on her dream of bringing formal palliative care education to her nursing students and is developing a program proposal, collaborating with an interdisciplinary team, to provide accredited palliative care education at the university level to undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral nursing students.
Dr. Stackhouse received her BSN from Cedar Crest College and her MSN/FNP from DeSales University. She completed her DNP at DeSales University with a concentration in Clinical Leadership. In addition to her clinical practice, she currently serves as an Assistant Professor of Nursing in Graduate Studies at DeSales University and is the Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) Educator and Accredited Provider Program Director for the Hospice and Palliative Nurses Association (HPNA). Dr. Stackhouse has authored and published multiple publications with HPNA, authored and edited HPNA position statements, nursing resource guides, spearheaded HPNA’s COVID-19 Resource webpage, and serves on AAHPMs Annual Assembly Conference Staff and Program Planning Committees.
Dr. Stackhouse possesses an enthusiasm and passion to assist others to increase knowledge and awareness of how to live and function well, promoting patient centered care by identifying individual goals and supporting one’s autonomy to make decisions that reflect one’s values and beliefs.
In her free time, you can see her enjoying her love of nature and travel, exploring new places and cultures. Whether it be the beach or the mountains, she enjoys everything nature has to offer. She believes our purpose in life is to seek its highest possible form and create it when we need to.
